Natasha Powell running in the annual cross country event, 31/3/2010

Students at Fiordland College are generally very active and enjoy a high level of participation in organised sport.  This is made possible through the organisational abilities of our Sport Co-ordinator, Mr John Attfield, the willingness of staff to participate, coach and manage teams and the support of our local sports clubs.  The school provides the opportunity for all students to participate in sport during our Wednesday sports period and during our Coaching Days.  Coaching days are held twice a year and enable students to choose from a variety of sport and have an extended period of time to work with trained coaches in sports ranging from rock-climbing to rugby.

We are very proud of our students’ sporting achievements over the years and these are highlighted in our Sporting Heroes section.

Netball 2010

This year Fiordland College has joined with the newly established Fiordland Netball Club.  There are 5 teams made up of Fiordland College, Te Anau Primary and Mararoa School students, as well as an adult ladies team.  They play in the Central Southland Netball competition on Saturdays in Winton.

This year the coaches of the Fiordland College teams are:

Senior A: Shelley Wilson

Senior B: Jan Brown

Year 7/8: Jackie McDuff

The Senior A Netball team also plays in the Southland Secondary Schools League on Wednesday nights held in either Invercargill, Winton or Te Anau.  They will also travel to Tournament in Blenheim at the end of August to compete against schools from all over the South Island.
