Welcome to Fiordland College

Welcome to Fiordland College Fiordland College is a small high school located in Te Anau that pursues educational excellence within a safe and caring environment. The school uses its excellent Facilities to provide a good standard of education to all its students. You can visit our Student Achievements page to see some of our honoured students.

Academic records are very good and a high percentage our students gain entry to the New Zealand University of their choice. Senior students are able to take a range of subjects to University Bursary level. The school offers a broad range of academic courses at all levels, with many specialist teachers.

Class sizes are small, with senior classes having between 3 and 20 students, and junior school classes having between 18 and 30 students. Our Curriculum provides a broad range of skills to students from all backgrounds and welcomes International Students.

High academic results can be a reflection of two things:

  • either the natural ability level of incoming students; and/or
  • the contribution that the school, home and student have made to enhance understanding and to raise the level of achievement of each individual.

Fiordland College is proud of the fact that its academic achievements are the result of “value-added” education.  The College does not discriminate against or choose its students.  Because it is the only secondary school in the Te Anau Basin, it takes all students who wish to attend.  While many city schools have the advantage of taking students only from higher socio-economic backgrounds, or of attracting fee-paying students, it is a point of considerable pride to the College that, even without such advantages of student intake, the College is able to provide excellent academic results.

It is our expectation that there will always be considerable scope for variation from year to year.   With such a small intake of students at any one level (20 - 50 students), variations are bound to occur.
